How KCI is being impacted by global IT outage

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — If you have a flight to catch Friday at KCI, you may want to arrive a little earlier.

That’s because some airlines are experiencing delays because of an IT outage. It’s a global outage that’s causing some airlines to ground their flights.

Airport officials at KCI told FOX4 that this is an airline issue, not an airport issue.

Things are slower than normal, running about 15 minutes behind — So check your flight schedule before you leave home.

Airport officials released this statement on social media :

“MCI is open this morning and several of our airline partners are working through a technology issue that is impacting flight operations. Flying today? Please be in touch with your airline.”

The IT outage was apparently caused by an update to the Crowdstrike System. The outage has affected computer systems that use the Microsoft Windows operating system and put them into a continual rebooting loop.

The CEO of Crowdstrike wants to assure people that this is not a cyberattack — but just an outage.

It’s affected airlines, airports, banks, businesses, some 911 emergency systems and even the London Stock Exchange.

As of 6 a.m., there were four flights canceled and 14 were delayed.
