    NFL lineman Isaiah Buggs sentenced to hard labor for animal cruelty charges

    NFL defensive defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs was sentenced Thursday to 365 days of hard labor after being convicted of animal cruelty charges.

    According to Kansas City’s WRBC , Buggs was ordered 60 days with credit, with the remaining 300 days suspended for two years pending behavior.

    “The Buggs situation is confusing and bears explaining, but it has not been concluded yet,” his attorney, Greg Gambril, told WRBC.

    Buggs, who was part of the Chiefs’ practice squad last season, was accused of leaving two dogs “malnourished, emaciated and neglected” in documents filed in Tuscaloosa District Court.

    He was cut in June after being signed to a futures contract in February.

    A sixth-round pick in the 2019 draft by the Steelers, Buggs played three years with Pittsburgh and parts of two with the Lions before being cut and joining the Chiefs’ practice squad last year.

    He’s currently a free agent.

    According to The Tuscaloosa Patch, officers and animal control allegedly found a white pitbull on the porch of a property rented by Buggs with no access to food or water and surrounded by bodily waste.

    They also reportedly found a caged Rottweiler mix without access to food or water.

    When warrants for Buggs’ arrest were issued in May, his agent, Trey Robinson, claimed the allegations were part of an effort by the city of Tuscaloosa to get Buggs to close his hookah lounge business.

    In addition to the animal cruelty charges, Buggs was also arrested and charged with domestic violence/burglary in June.

    He allegedly dragged Yamya Johnson, the mother of his child, down the stairs of her apartment.

    The Chiefs have dealt with a series of legal issues this offseason.

    Rashee Rice was charged with eight counts after driving 119 mph in a 70-mph zone in March , resulting in multiple injuries.

    Offensive tackles Wanya Morris and Chukwuebuka Godrivk were also arrested in May for misdemeanor marijuana possession .
