KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Current were without three starters due to injury and several players out for the Olympic break including leading scorer Temwa Chawinga.

It didn’t matter. The Current routed Mexican side Pachuca 3-0 in their second NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup group stage match.

Pachuca has just begun their Liga MX season while the Current have eclipsed the halfway point of their NWSL season.

Kansas City soared to a 3-0 first-half lead with a brace from striker Debinha with goals in the 12th and 28th minutes. Kristen Hamilton scored her third goal of the season and second goal of the tournament in the 32nd minute off of a beautiful crossed from the right wing from Michelle Cooper.

Debinha’s two goals were her first since May 12. She only has one goal in NWSL play.

The Current held Pachuca to one shot in the first half while they acquired 12. KC ended the match with 19 shots (eight on goal) to Pachuca’s nine shots (three on goal).

The Current had three debuts on the night as well.

Swedish defender Hanna Glas started at right back in her first match with the club since signing in February 2023. National team replacement defender Janae Defazio subbed in for Glas in the 68th minute. Former United States women’s national team midfielder and NWSL veteran midfielder Allie Long made her Current debut in the 78th minute.

The Current are undefeated in the group stage of the tournament with two wins and a goal differential of five. Goal differential is crucial in the tournament with the top four teams out of the five groups advancing to the semifinals.

Kansas City hosts Mexican club Tigres UANL in the final group stage match of the tournament on Thursday at CPKC Stadium at 7 p.m.
