Kansas sues Pfizer for misleading public about COVID vaccine

Kansas Republican Attorney General Kris Kobach filed a lawsuit against Pfizer , accusing the pharmaceutical drug company of hiding “serious adverse events” related to the COVID vaccine from consumers.

Kobach argues that Pfizer violated the Kansas Consumer Protection Act due to its "actions and statements relating to its COVID-19 vaccine."

The 179-page lawsuit filed on Monday in the District Court of Thomas County alleges Pfizer “falsely representing the benefits of its COVID-19 vaccine while concealing and suppressing the truth about its vaccine’s safety risks, waning effectiveness, and inability to prevent transmission."

Kobach alleges that Pfizer earned $75 billion in just two years thanks to its “misrepresentation” of the vaccine.

The lawsuit asserts that Pfizer “knew” its COVID-19 vaccine caused an uptick of individuals to develop myocarditis and pericarditis, to experience a miscarriage, and also lead some to die.

In June, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration added a warning label to both Pfizer and Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine of its potential risk for individuals to develop myocarditis and pericarditis. The National Institutes of Health conducted a review of COVID-19 vaccine studies and found no evidence that the vaccines increased a woman’s risk of miscarriage.

In addition, the lawsuit states that Pfizer claimed its vaccine was effective even though they “knew” over time its effectiveness diminished and it could not fight against new variants.

“Pfizer concealed this critical effectiveness information from the public," the lawsuit said.

From using confidentiality agreements and destroying the control group participating in its vaccine trial, the lawsuit claims the company was concealing “critical data” related to the “safety and effectiveness” of the vaccine.

"Because Pfizer unblinded the original control group and allowed them to receive Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine, Pfizer, government regulators, and independent scientists cannot fully compare the safety and efficacy of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine against unvaccinated individuals," the lawsuit alleges.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton also filed a lawsuit against Pfizer last year, which remains pending.

Meanwhile, Pfizer claims the lawsuit filed against them by Kobach is without merit.

"The representations made by Pfizer about its COVID-19 vaccine have been accurate and science-based," the company said in a statement.
