The grandma of the missing 14-year-old son of a NFL star claims he's been "brainwashed" by his parents.

Bryson Muir , the son of former Colts player Daniel Muir, was picked up by his parents from a relative's home on June 16 near Cleveland. Now the boy's grandmother, Cheryl Wright, has expressed her deep fear for the boy's safety.

She said: "It is a very difficult situation. We're all very sick about him. It hurts my heart." She took matters into her own hands when she reached out to police with concerns over Bryson's treatment before the boy disappeared.

Alleging that violent beatings had been inflicted on the boy by his father, Daniel, she voiced her fears that Bryson was deeply caught up in the intense lifestyle of a large religious group, which own a Logansport compound the family live at, fueling concern over the boy's wellbeing.

The child's grandmother expressed her distress on Monday, saying: "Bryson is so conditioned or brainwashed to their way of living that he wanted to go back," and recounted the heart-wrenching moment she last saw him. "As I tried to get my daughter to leave he ran out of the house and left with them."

As troubling tales continued to emerge about young Bryson, an image was released showing the child sporting a black eye. Heartbroken and sick with worry, Cheryl last saw Bryson on June 16, upon his departure from her Ohio home, accompanied by his mother Kristen Muir in a white 2015 Chevrolet Suburban.

"He was here for two days, Thursday evening to Sunday morning," Wright recalled. "His mom came to get him. I didn't want to let him go."

Wright alerted authorities to troubling signs of abuse on Bryson's face - notably a black eye. A haunting photo snapped of Bryson raised alarm.

"His face was battered. When I got him he had a black eye and busted lip," Wright revealed. "His whole face was swollen. I can only imagine how many times he had been hit in the face for it to be like that."

Speaking to FOX59/CBS4, Wright alleged the injury was dealt by the boy's father, Daniel. However, he refused to speak about the incident, pushing his worried grandma to call local law enforcement.

"I didn't want to let him go," Wright lamented. "I tried to call the police because he had been abused. It hurts me that anyone could be beaten like that. It hurts me that my daughter would allow anyone to do that to her child."

In a matter of minutes after the son and mother left their residence, local authorities intercepted her Suburban, according to ISP Capt. Ron Galaviz. Wright recounted being informed that officers located Kristen's vehicle before it even reached the freeway.

Yet, Bryson was nowhere to be found in his mother's car, as per the police report. "It was minutes, it wasn't a very long period of time whatsoever," Galaviz noted. "But in that period of time, Bryson wasn't able to be found. We don't know where he went."

"The officers believe that he had probably been switched into another car," she added. The investigation then turned towards the parents.

A couple of days subsequent to the incident, the Cass County Department of Child Services prompted ISP troopers to investigate claims of domestic battery against Bryson at a Logansport property, following their inability to contact the family.

Despite repeated attempts to reach the Muir parents, including visits to their home on the 1700 block of West US 24 in Logansport, ISP had no success until Thursday. On June 27, Capt. Galaviz revealed that detectives had finally made contact with Daniel and Kristen Muir, who are now "beginning to cooperate" with the investigation by ISP, yet Bryson remains missing.
