Severe thunderstorms moved across Kansas early Tuesday morning. The storms produced multiple severe thunderstorm warnings. A 93 mph wind gust was measured northeast of Bunker Hill in Russell County, a reported 85 mph gust at the Russell Airport. Russell County also had multiple reports of telephone poles snapping. A 79 mph wind gust was reported near New Cambria in Saline County.

Further west in Hays, the storm produced high wind, which knocked down branches and cut power to nearly 800 early Tuesday. Elsewhere in the U.S., storms spawning multiple tornado reports blew through Iowa, Illinois — including Chicago — and Indiana on Monday, downing trees and power poles and cutting power to more than 460,000 customers and businesses.
