Exploring Kansas Outdoors: God’s slithering vermin snatchers
I don’t know what makes some people deathly afraid of snakes and other people not, but I was blessed (or cursed) with the latter; we’ll call it a “healthy respect.” Now, don’t misunderstand me, I don’t want a snake for a pet, to wear around my neck or to curl up on my lap for scratches like our pups, but I’m not much afraid of them. I have close friends who would make a back-door in a building where there was no back-door, if suddenly faced with a snake. My brother, whom I have always seen as being as manly-as-they-come, will turn and walk the other way. I have seen grown men twice my size and tough-as-nails run screaming like little girls at the sight of a snake. A recent conversation with a friend who found a big bull snake in her basement, and a Facebook post today asking readers to identify a snake someone found in their backyard, reminded me of my first encounter with a big Kansas snake.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Meteorologist Dean Jones says rain and scattered storms will continue across Kansas on Sunday as a cold front continues to push through the state. The risk of severe weather will be minimal throughout the day, however heavy downpours and lightning may be an issue with some of the stronger storms through the afternoon.

Kansas Weather: Severe Storms Expected Late Tonight, Cooler Start to the Week
Wichita, KS – Kansas residents can expect a mix of weather conditions over the next few days, starting with mild temperatures today and potential severe storms tonight. According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, today’s high temperatures will reach the upper 80s to around 90 degrees across much of the state. Locations such as Salina and Hutchinson will see highs of 91 degrees, while Wichita is forecasted to hit 90 degrees. Tonight, there is a possibility of severe thunderstorms, particularly in areas like Russell, which could experience scattered severe weather late in the day.
