Condos’ High-Rising Insurance Premiums a Top issue in Some Legislative Races
(AP) – Rising insurance premiums for condo owners have become a top issue for House and Senate candidates in urban Honolulu races. House candidate Jillian Anderson said she made it her top issue after getting letter from her condo association announcing a 300% increase in insurance premiums. She says critical issues facing condo owners, especially spiking insurance costs, top her agenda. Her opponent is incumbent Rep. Adrian Tam, who also says his No. 1 issue is the unstable condo insurance market. Tam co-sponsored a bill designed to stabilize condo insurance costs this past session, but it stalled in conference committee. Candidates in other districts are also campaigning on the issue, saying discussions about housing affordability often center on insurance.
Lahaina Restoration Foundation president to speak on post-wildfire recovery efforts
The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset will host Lahaina Restoration Foundation President David Allaire on Aug. 6 for a talk on post-wildfire recovery efforts. The free 5:30 p.m. talk at the Aston Paki Maui Resort’s Ali`i meeting room will happen two days before the one-year anniversary of the Lahaina wildfire disaster that destroyed most of Lahaina town and reduced many of its historic buildings to ash or ruins. The resort is located at 3615 Lower Honoapi`ilani Road in Honokowai.
