Lahaina fire survivor sells coconuts to rebuild his house
Koli Hafoka sells coconuts on the side of the highway. His table is lined with cut pineapple and mango in Ziploc bags and he has a trunk of coconuts, two large knives and a bundle of straws. People pull over on the side of the road to buy from Hafoka, and others honk and roll down their windows to shout their support. The Maui native’s home was destroyed in the blaze last August.

A Honolulu Police Department officer shot and killed an armed man at a Waiʻanae home after responding to calls of a domestic argument and gunfire. The police were called before 6 p.m. Wednesday to a home on Puhinalo Place. Callers reported an argument in the street followed by gunfire.

County Officials Investigating Fraudulent Email
Hawaiʻi County officials were alerted of an email inviting individuals experiencing homelessness to stay at an address in the Hilo district evenings between August 14-18. Investigators determined the address provided in the email was the personal residence of Mayor Mitch Roth. The email falsely claims individuals are welcome to stay and utilize resources at the residence without needing to knock.
