BWS: 'We have a serious situation' over detection of crude oil chemicals at shuttered well
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Board of Water Supply says that for the first time, its inactive Aiea well is detecting chemicals related to crude oil. BWS leaders believe it’s a sign that contamination from the Navy’s Red Hill fuel spills could be spreading. In a statement, the Navy’s Red Hill Closure Task Force disagreed with the BWS saying it doesn’t concur with its conclusions.

Maui Fire Department extinguishes brushfire in Wailuku area
WAILUKU, Hawaii (Island News) -- Maui firefighters have completely extinguished a Wailuku brushfire in the Iao Stream and Halekii Pihana Heiau areas. The fire lasted until about 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024. Maui Fire Department responded to the fire at about 3 p.m. and they have begun mop-up operations.
