Finding Your Radio Code: Initial Steps

Before you start the process of retrieving your radio code, it’s a good idea to check your vehicle for any existing documentation that might have the code. Here’s where you can look:

    Check the Glovebox

For many Honda models, the radio code is conveniently located on a small white sticker inside the glovebox. This sticker typically lists the five or six-digit code under the label “Anti-Theft Radio Code.” If you find this sticker, you can enter the code directly using your radio’s preset buttons. After entering the code correctly, your radio should beep and resume normal operation.

    Retrieve Your Radio Serial Number

If you cannot find the radio code in your glovebox, you will need to retrieve your radio’s serial number to proceed. The method for obtaining this serial number depends on the model year of your Honda.

    For 2002 or Newer Hondas:

    • Turn on the Ignition: Insert the key and turn it to the “ON” position. This will power up the electrical components without starting the engine.
    • Press and Hold Buttons: Simultaneously press and hold radio preset buttons 1 and 6.
    • Check Display: After a few moments, a 10-digit alphanumeric code will appear on the radio display. This is your radio serial number. Write it down carefully.

    For 2001 or Older Hondas:

    • Remove the Radio: To locate the serial number on older models, you’ll need to remove the radio from the dashboard. This may require tools and a careful approach to avoid damaging your vehicle’s interior.
    • Locate the Serial Number: The serial number is usually found on the body of the radio unit. Refer to your owner’s manual for instructions on removing the radio or consider seeking professional assistance to avoid damage.

Once you have your radio serial number, you can retrieve your radio code through one of the following methods:

    1. Online Retrieval

    • Visit the Website: Go to https://radiounlocked.com/.
    • Enter Information: Provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), radio serial number, and an email address where you can receive the code.
    • Check Availability: The website is available Sunday-Friday from 4:00 AM to 9:00 PM PST and Saturday from 4:00 AM to 6:30 PM PST.

    2. Phone Retrieval

    • Call Honda America Client Services: Dial 1-800-999-1009.
    • Provide Details: You will need to give your VIN, radio serial number, and proof of ownership. Be prepared to verify your identity and vehicle details.

    3. Visit a Dealership

    • Find a Local Dealer: Visit your nearest Honda or Acura dealership.
    • Provide Information: Bring your radio serial number and proof of ownership. The dealership can look up the code for you, though this may require a visit in person.

    Keeping Your Radio Code Safe

Once you have successfully retrieved your radio code, make sure to write it down and store it in a safe place. This will make it easier to access the code in the future if needed, such as if you ever disconnect the battery or remove the radio again.
