LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A North Little Rock man will spend years in federal prison after sentencing in Little Rock on Tuesday.

Kamron Leemonte Mathis received a prison sentence of 188 months followed by five years of supervised release after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm last October. Officials said the 27-year-old multi-time-convicted felon was facing a potential term of 15 years to life and a fine of $250,000 after making his plea.

According to officials, Mathis was stopped by North Little Rock police in June 2022 for driving a car with an expired registration. He was on parole at the time and had a search waiver on file, which allowed officers to search the car.

Officials said when officers searched the car they found a 9mm firearm under the driver’s seat. Investigators also found two magazines and 24 rounds of ammunition during the search.

The U.S. Attorney’s office for the Eastern District of Arkansas said in a statement that Mathis was classified as an armed career criminal with a documented violent criminal history. The statement continued that his previous convictions, including felon in possession of a firearm, robbery, aggravated assault and first-degree battery were factors in the Tuesday sentencing decision.
