LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Educators with the Little Rock School District are getting ready to kick off the first day of school next week.

As the summer break winds down, fourth grade teacher Kassandra Hasley is hard at work.

“Printing off lesson plans. Getting ready for the first week of school. Had to unpack my room. So, unpack and going through things,” Hasley said.

The fourth-grade teacher enjoys this process, wanting her students to feel right at home as they enter her classroom on Monday.

For some, the first day of school can be a bit nervous. But first grade teacher Emily Smith has a solution.

“We do a whole little activity. They drink jitter juice,” Smith said.

The school focuses on leadership. Using a new program called “Leader in me” to help equip the students to grow up to be independent.

A valuable lesson that will be taught every day throughout the school year.

“I’m excited to see some of my old students go up to second grade. I’m excited for my new students that I’m getting this year also,” Smith said.
