YELL COUNTY, Ark. – Many Arkansans were still without power Tuesday due to the weekend’s storms, with Yell County being one of the hardest hit areas.

Chainsaws can be heard throughout the county as residents work to clean up debris. County resident Renee Ernst said it is the sound of neighbors helping neighbors.

“We’re just trying to help the neighbor a little bit, get some tree off his shed and just trying to clean up our yard and area,” Ernst said.

In the western part of the county the town of Havana saw plenty of trees and power poles down. Ernst’s power went out Sunday but thankfully came back on Tuesday afternoon.

“Went and bought a small generator and just took turns hooking up different things to keep them going,” Ernst said.

Havana mayor Walter Gorman said in a town this small everyone knows everyone. Some people made food for those without power to pick up at city hall.

“We’ve just got a lot of good people in this area that are helping neighbors,” Gorman said.

He said the storms not only affected homes but also poultry houses.

“They all have their generator backup systems but they had to use them because the power was out,” Gorman said.

With chainsaws and helping hands, Ernst said she’s hopeful they’ll get all the mess cleaned up soon. “If you see somebody who needs a little bit of help try and go and help them, someday we may need some help,” Ernst said.
