    Police arrest juvenile accused in social media threat made against Russellville Junior High School

    RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Police in Russellville said a juvenile is in custody after investigators accused them of being behind a social media threat targeting a school.

    Officials with the Russellville Police Department said Wednesday afternoon that officers had successfully apprehended the suspect after working with community members of authorities with the Russellville School District.

    The juvenile is not being identified, but police officials said they would face charges in this matter.

    Department officials posted on social media Saturday evening that they were aware of the online threat at that time. Police increased their security presence at the school and the department began its investigation.

    A spokesperson for the Russellville School District said a message was sent to parents of RJHS students Wednesday updating them on the situation. In that response, district officials said they are grateful for the efforts of police and that staff & student safety “remains a top priority.”

    RPD has notified the District that the source of the potential threat reported over the weekend has been identified and a suspect has been taken into custody.

    The District is grateful for Russellville Police Department’s continued support in keeping students and staff safe. The safety of students and staff remains a top priority. RSD safety protocols will continue to be followed.

    Thank you RPD for keeping those children safe, and you great job of tracking the threat and stopping the suspect before he could carry out his threats. ❣️

    Glad it was stopped before it started. Weapons need to be locked up in a gun safe , or temporarily disabled. Parents need to keep an eye on them even if they're locked in a safe.
