NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark.- As the Arkansas Travelers wrap up their regular season and prepare for the postseason, Dickey-Stephens Park recognized Operation: Military Appreciation day.

A part of the day was also about remembering the first responders who lost their lives during 9/11 as the 23rd anniversary approaches this upcoming Wednesday.

“To never forget, always in our heart, and God bless,” North Little Rock Police Lt. Brandon Bennett said.

It’s a time that many people remember, and many people will never forget. Sunday, the community gathered to say thank you to first responders and our military at Dickey-Stephens Park.

Before the game, the Travelers invited military and first responders to the field for a 9/11 appreciation ceremony.

First responders and the military also played games with children out on the field and placed their vehicles out front of the stadium for children and the community to take a peek inside and take pictures with.

“We all remember where we were; it’s really shaped who we are and the reasons a lot of us became firemen, we saw those people for the first time as heroes,” North Little Rock Firefighter Tanner Ramsey said.

Ramsey said it was an honor that the Travelers were taking their last regular season home game to shed light on a day many people remember as a pivotal moment.

“Growing up, I’ve always come to the Traveler’s game, and seeing them support in remembrance of the 9/11 itself it’s important,” U.S. Army Daniel Deviney said.

With the American flag flying high at Dickey-Stephen Park, each home run honors the lives lost during 9/11 as the 23rd anniversary of 9/11 approaches its upcoming anniversary.

“What better way to do it than America’s greatest past time, the game of baseball,” Bennett said.

The Travelers dedicated the 6-5 win against Corpus Christi to the first responders in attendance as the team heads into the playoffs.
