LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The fall season opener for kickball has arrived in the Natural State, and there were plenty of first time teams, and some returning for another year on Sunday.

Jeff Spencer says he’s fallen in love with the sport since first playing years ago.

“I actually have been in this for 3 seasons now and love it. Never thought that I would love kickball as much as I do,” Spencer said.

It’s nostalgic for many who say kickball was something they enjoyed in their youth, like Mike Payton.

“I haven’t played since 6th grade so that’s a long time,” Payton said.

But thanks to the Little Rock Kickball Association, those who truly love the sport have plenty of seasons to play.

The Little Rock Kickball Association has been around since 2004, and many say the purpose is bigger than taking home a win.

“We raise money for fundraisers like one or two per season, I think that’s totally awesome,” Bridget Powell, a member of team Fourth Base said.

The association has its own foundation called the Big Red Ball Charitable Foundation which helps nonprofits benefit from these games.

People say it’s a way to stay active, meet new people, and give back to the community. Something Sam Staggs admires the most

“I’ve met a lot of my friends as an adult in this league here which we are the laid-back league,”

The season ends in November and if you’re looking for some Sunday fun, Interstate Park is the place to be.
