LONOKE, Ark. – A federal grant for the Lonoke community will provide disaster recovery and resiliency in the region with an ultimate target of job creation.

The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration announced the $600,000 grant on Tuesday. The recipient is the Association of Arkansas Development Organizations for central Arkansas.

Officials said this grant will provide technical and long-term disaster recovery assistance in Arkansas counties affected by the December 2021 tornadoes. EDA officials said the funding would provide economic and technical assistance as the region recovers and develops resources to limit the impact of future disasters.

Another $160,000 in local funds will be added to the EDA funding.

Officials credited the leadership of the Central Arkansas Planning and Development District and the Southwest Arkansas Planning and Development District with making the grant project possible. The two groups used the EDA funding to unite the public and private sectors in creating a regional economic development roadmap, ultimately promoting job creation.
