Some Cabot High School students stay home Wednesday after a report of a threat

CABOT, Ark. – The threat of a school shooting had some parents in Cabot keeping their kids home from school on Wednesday.

The district sent out an email about a note found in the high school bathroom making the threat.

The school did allow students to stay home without penalty and security precautions were taken.

Parents in Cabot said the note started circulating on Snapchat and now they’re scared to send their kids to school until the person who wrote it is found.

The note threatening the lives of students had “school shooting at 8 am” written on it and it targeted the specific date of Sep. 11, 2024. At the bottom, it said, “everyone dies.”

The note left many parents in Cabot concerned for their children.

“I don’t mess with my kids and their lives. Just like most parents,” Cabot parent Christen Schellenberg said. “You look at the parking lot at the high school and it’s practically empty because so many people kept their kids home today.”

Christen Schellenberg’s son goes to the Cabot Freshman Academy. She is one of many parents who decided to keep their child home.

The Cabot School district did increase security for the day. There was help from Cabot Police Department, the Lonoke County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Ward and Austin Police Departments.

Schellenberg said security is important to feel safe going back to school, but it isn’t enough.

“What I would really like is to not send them back until they find this person and figure this out,” Schellenberg said.

Authorities said this is an ongoing investigation.
