    Texarkana child injured in shooting, mother’s boyfriend arrested

    TEXARKANA, Texas ( KTAL/KMSS ) – A man was arrested following a shooting investigation by the Texarkana, Arkansas Police Department.

    According to investigators, Texarkana, Texas, police were called when a two-year-old child arrived at a hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. The mother told police that her other 8-year-old child found a firearm in their Texarkana, Arkansas, home and shot the younger sibling by accident.

    Investigators said they learned that the mother’s live-in boyfriend, Breydan Ybarra, dropped the child off at the hospital. They said he also dropped the eight-year-old and a five-year-old child off at the children’s grandmother’s home in Nash, Texas.

    Police said they made contact with the children for identification purposes and also checked the home to ensure there were no other victims. A warrant check was run on Ybarra, which revealed that he is a convicted felon, leading to his arrest.

    Investigators said Ybarra was arrested for possession of a firearm by certain persons and three counts of endangering the welfare of a minor – all are felony charges.

    Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators were called to the home, and a search warrant was executed on the home and vehicle.

    Officers said the child was flown to Children’s Hospital in Little Rock for treatment.
