Original birth certificate reveals Texarkana woman’s age ahead of 100th bday party

TEXARKANA, Texas ( KTAL/KSHV )—Jerry Vaughan, or Maw Maw to her family, was expecting to celebrate her 100th birthday on September 19.

“Mother had always told my sister Donna, who is the oldest that she was, that mom was born in 1924,” says Sherry Edwards, one of Jerry’s Daughters.

The family believed that year was accurate, until someone decided to do some digging.

“We never could find mom’s birth certificate. So my daughter Francesca found it and here is the original birth certificate. And as you can see, right over here it says 1923,” says Sherry as she displays a copy of the faded document.

Vaughan was just as surprised as anyone. “I thought lord have mercy, me 101,” she says.

So now the family is not only celebrating a milestone birthday, but also the fact that the record has been set straight.

“And it’s really been a joke because when I showed it to mom, mom said, well, it kind of looks like a three, but I don’t know that it really is. And I said, mom, it really is a three,” says Sherry.

While she does not have any secret to her longevity, she does have a secret to how she manages to look so good at her age.

“I bathe my face every night in my night cream trying to hide these wrinkles,” says Jerry.

Whether 100 or 101, her family is excited to celebrate with her, and look back over a long and happy life.

“We had two great parents, very caring. we never did without, there was never any fussing or fighting or if there was, we never knew about it. which I think is a way of home should be,” says Sherry.

“I’ve had, I can say 100 and one wonderful years. They’ve all been blessed,” says Jerry.
