HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – A parody of the Osborne Brothers’ song “Rocky Top” has gained momentum on social media after the Arkansas Razorbacks’ victory over the Tennessee Volunteers.

The man behind the Arkansas version of the song is Hot Springs native Blane Howard.

“I was hoping for maybe a couple of hundred thousand views,” Howard said. “But now, on TikTok we’re way above that. Instagram is over a hundred thousand. Facebook is at like half a million.”

Howard now lives in Nashville, Tennessee, and while his true passion comes from playing his songs on stages across the country, he says he gains a lot of his fans from his football parodies on social media.

“It allows me to meet so many people so that when they come to shows,” Howard said. “I’m seeing them in the comments saying, ‘I’m here because I saw your video and I think your other music is great too.”

And for Vols fans, Howard said he appreciates their viewership as well.

“Negative comments might start arguments, that just means more people are seeing it,” Howard said.

Howard’s hoping for more wins in the Razorback season, saying it’s good for business.

“Making songs after losses don’t seem to do as well as making songs after wins,” Howard said, “So if they can keep winning, keep the momentum moving forward, I’ll definitely keep making songs.”
