HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Kira Williams is a single mother of two boys and a nurse. She is used to caring for others, but now her needs are being met through Garland County Habitat for Humanity.

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit that has helped provide affordable housing for nearly 60 million people nationwide and that number is growing with a new home in Hot Springs for Williams and her two boys.

“A lot of people didn’t know what this program means, and when I start telling them my story about Habitat and being part of the Habitat, they were really shocked and amazed,” Williams said.

A group of more than 150 local women, some of whom are nurses who work with Williams, are helping build the home.

“I’m happy with the progress that I have made, and I’m just so excited of what’s going to happen here in the next couple of months,” Williams said. “Not a lot of people can say they put a whole house together, but I’ll be able to.”

Williams, her boys and the women helped build the home board by board, writing an encouraging message on each board nailed into the frame.

“I’m just so thankful that they left these little inspirations and their signatures and the dates, and this just lets me know that I’m loved,” Williams said. “It shows how strong a dynamic we are and how we can come together and work together. I’m really blessed for every single woman who was able to help me and my family.”
