Thousands of dollars in equipment stolen from Greenbrier boxing club

GREENBRIER, Ark. – Holes now sit where a speed bag once did after a thief stole thousands of dollars’ worth of equipment from a Greenbrier boxing gym.

On Monday morning, Greenbrier Boxing Club owner Thad Kilpatrick walked into the gym and saw things scattered and missing.

“It hurt, because they took more from the kids than they took from me,” Kilpatrick said.

Kilpatrick built this gym two years ago using money from his own pocket. Now he’s forced to pay the cost of being a target of theft.

“They stole a bunch of gloves, headgears,” Kilpatrick listed. “A bunch of the kids had backpacks here full of gear that’s all gone. Competition gear that we always take, that’s gone.”

He said the price of this solen equipment costs around $2,000.

Kilpatrick said the community is reaching out to help, but the damage done is costing more than a price tag. He said the kids might have to miss out on what they’ve been training for.

The building is owned by Apex Athletics, and there are security cameras around it, but Kilpatrick said after this incident he’s installing more.

“A little something like this isn’t going to knock us down,” Kilpatrick said. “We’re going to get back up and keep going.”
