Norman’s Neighborhood: Officer Norman visits his best friend Legaci

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – North Little Rock Police officer Tommy Norman has had some tough hills to climb like health issues and the heartbreaking passing of his daughter.

But no matter what he goes through, he never stops being there for the people in his community.

To be able to keep going, it’s those that are there for him that keep him uplifted.

One of those people is his best friend, sweet little Legaci.

“She is someone that has lifted my spirits when she didn’t even know it,” Norman said.

As Officer Norman surprises Legaci with a visit, he’s greeted with love.

“Officer Norman,” Legaci shouted.

They meet with a big big hug.

These two best friends first met on the playground at Legaci’s school while Norman was visiting. On that day, at that moment, Legaci proclaimed she and Officer Norman were best friends.

Norman says when he showed up at school, Legaci “would push the other kids away. She made sure that Officer Norman saw Legaci.”

Best friend isn’t a title she just dishes out to anybody.

You have to check two boxes to be Legaci’s BFF.

“Give hugs and give me toys,” she said.

But it’s more than just showing up with gifts, it’s Officer Norman staying consistent with his intentions which earned Legaci’s trust.

As Norman’s visit with Legaci came to an end, she asked him a question.

“Can you come to my birthday,” she asked shyly.

Not only did Legaci invite Officer Norman to her birthday party, but she also asked him to dance with her at her mom’s wedding.

“I would be honored,” Norman answered. “That means that somewhere along the line she trusted me,” Norman said.

A tiny person bringing monumental joy.

“A kindergartener looks at you like a superhero, but what Legaci doesn’t realize is she’s my superhero.”
