As we head into the Labor Day weekend, those planning outdoor activities will need to stay weather-aware. The forecast includes a fair amount of uncertainty, with scattered showers and thunderstorms likely, particularly on Saturday and Sunday. The good news is these storms will be isolated and short-lived, meaning not everyone will get wet. But those who do could experience brief heavy rain and the potential for lightning. So, if you’re planning any outdoor events, especially during the peak afternoon or evening hours, it would be wise to have an indoor alternative.

The Salt Bowl, along with other high school football games on Friday night, may see some impact from these isolated thunderstorms. With kickoff temperatures around 80°F and a chance for showers, people should be prepared for the possibility of rain. While the storms may be brief, lightning could cause delays, so keep that in mind as you make your plans.

As we move through the weekend and into Labor Day, the weather remains a mixed bag. Saturday and Sunday both carry a significant chance of showers and thunderstorms, which could disrupt outdoor festivities. However, by Labor Day, the weather looks to improve with only a 20% chance of rain and temperatures climbing back to 90°F.

Despite the lower rain chances, isolated storms could still pop up, so it’s best to remain vigilant. Finally, while the rain may be hit or miss, the potential for lightning is a serious concern. Always remember the phrase “When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors.” Even if a storm seems far away, lightning can strike several miles from the storm.

Enjoy the holiday weekend, but stay weather-aware, especially if you’re planning on being outside.
