A popular restaurant said it was "forced to close" in Byron. And a movie theater that has been part of the Rochester landscape for 22 years announced it was saying goodbye. St.James Coffee celebrated 12th anniversary of being open
ROCHESTER, Minn. At St. James Coffee they celebrated their 12th anniversary of being open. There were donuts and free coffee to thank their customers for supporting them. They're a non-profit organizations that brings the community together through Coffee and Christ. Operations Manager Mellissa Scaccio says it feels good to serve the community.
Photographer heads Southeast tech units
WINONA, Minn. – Minnesota State College Southeast has a new dean of trade and technology: Photographer and filmmaker Jake Griggs. Formerly he was associate liberal arts dean at Rochester Community and Technical College. Griggs began as a dean at Southeast in February but the appointment was announced belatedly. Griggs has degrees from University of Wisconsin-Stout and Drake University. He has taught at Western Technical College and UW-Stout. For 17 years he’s operated Drifting North Media out of Dakota in southern Winona County. He has specialized in business and family photography and video and design work. His “Three Bells” on a terminally ill mother has been exhibited at the Door County Short Film Festival in 2022 and at the Spring Grove International Film Festival in Fillmore County.
Rochester Authors speak on publishing in the modern era
ROCHESTER, Minn. To let the community get to know the local authors Garden Party books held a festival where 14 authors show up to sign and sell their books. One of them was 84 year old local author Evelyn Townsend. She was showcasing her new science fiction book Green Streak. She says in 2005 she tried to get one of her books published but couldn't do it. She says with self-publishing companies it makes it easier to publish.
