UPDATE: Victim identified in shooting at Lafayette business

The Lafayette Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred Saturday morning inside a business on Louisiana Avenue.

According to Lafayette Police, on August 31, 2024, shortly after 9:15 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Louisiana Avenue in reference to multiple shots fired inside a nearby business. Upon arrival, officers located two men suffering from gunshot wounds. One man was taken to a local hospital. The other man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased victim has been identified as Johnny Trailer Jr., 48, of Lafayette. The injured victim is still listed in critical condition. One of the victims was an employee of the business and the other was a patron, according to Sgt. Robin Green, Public Information Officer.

Detectives with the Lafayette Police Criminal Investigations Division and Crime Scene detectives responded to the scene, officials report.
