    Benefits of DIY Glass Cleaner

Here are are a few benefits of making your own glass and window cleaner:

    Cost-Effective

One of the best advantages of having a DIY glass cleaner is its cost efficiency.

The ingredients—rubbing alcohol, water, and vinegar—are super cheap and you probably already have them in your home.

Compared to commercial cleaners, which can cost several dollars per bottle, the cost of making your own cleaner is so worth it.

    Eco-Friendly and Non-Toxic

Commercial glass cleaners often contain chemicals that can be harmful to you and the environment.

By making your own glass cleaner, you reduce your carbon footprint and minimize the release of toxic substances into the ecosystem.

Many store-bought glass cleaners contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other toxic chemicals that pose health risks.

A homemade glass cleaner, on the other hand, uses natural ingredients that are safe for you and your family.

This reduces exposure to potentially harmful chemicals, making your home a healthier place to live.

    Customizable

When you make your own glass cleaner, you have full control over the ingredients.

This means you can customize the recipe to suit your wants or needs! For instance, you can add a few drops of essential oil for a pleasant smell or adjust the proportions to tackle more stubborn stains.

    Effective Cleaning Power

Despite being so simple, this window cleaner recipe is actually quite effective. The combination of rubbing alcohol, water, and vinegar works wonders on glass surfaces, leaving them streak-free and sparkling clean.

    Why This Recipe Works

Want to know why this recipe works so well? Here are the key factors in each of the ingredients:

    Rubbing Alcohol (Isopropyl Alcohol)

Rubbing alcohol is a powerful cleaning agent that evaporates quickly, which helps to prevent streaks on glass surfaces.

It acts as a degreaser, breaking down oily residues and grime that can accumulate on windows and mirrors.

Rubbing alcohol has disinfectant properties, making it useful for sanitizing surfaces too.

    Water

Water serves as the base of the solution and helps to dilute the other ingredients. It is essential for dissolving dirt and grime, making it easier to wipe away.

    Vinegar (Acetic Acid)

Vinegar is a natural cleaner with a slightly acidic pH, which helps to dissolve mineral deposits, soap scum, and other stubborn residues.

Its acidity also acts as a mild disinfectant. Vinegar’s ability to cut through grease and grime makes it an excellent ingredient for a glass cleaner.

Vinegar is effective at removing hard water spots and residues on your mirrors or windows.

    DIY Glass Cleaner

Now you know more about the benefits and power of these ingredients, here is the simple DIY glass cleaner recipe:

    Supplies

    • Glass spray bottle
    • 1/2 cup distilled vinegar
    • 1/2 cup rubbing alcohol
    • Distilled water

    Instructions

Pour the vinegar into the spray bottle.

Next add ½ cup of rubbing alcohol and pour into the spray bottle.

Fill the remainder of the bottle with distilled water.

Place the sprayer on the top of the bottle and shake the contents to mix. I give it a couple of shakes before each use.

Tips for Using a DIY Glass Cleaner

    • Microfiber cloths are ideal for cleaning glass surfaces as they are lint-free and highly absorbent. They help to prevent streaks and ensure a spotless finish.
    • Add in some essential oils! Lemon essential oil is my favorite to use.
    • When cleaning windows, avoid doing so in direct sunlight. The heat can cause the cleaning solution to dry too quickly, which may result in streaks.
    • Start cleaning from the top of the window and work your way down. This prevents drips from running onto already cleaned areas and ensures an even clean.
    • Regularly cleaning your windows and glass surfaces can prevent the build-up of grime and make future cleanings easier. A quick wipe-down every few weeks can keep your glass sparkling year-round.

    Glass Cleaner Recipe Final Thoughts

Making your own glass cleaner is a simple, cost-effective, and eco-friendly way to maintain spotless windows and mirrors.

The combination of rubbing alcohol, water, and vinegar help leave your glass surfaces streak-free.

Enjoy making some when you run out of your glass cleaner!
