Definitely a good first step to incentivize people to come work for county government. they are right when you work for the city county or state first off you are paid a low wage for the work you're doing compared to Private industry and the high cost of living on the island. then if you have to pay healthcare it's about another $150 every two weeks out of your paycheck. The Mayor is right at one time people chosen municipal career because of the great benefits it offered to their family and they were paid 100% by the government. the pay was never top notch but the benefits that they had made up for it. when municipality started charging employees for benefits that became very expensive people stop seeking a career in municipal government. unfortunately the mirror is right about setting wages but that seems to be the next top priority where most municipal employees are 10 to $15 an hour behind where they need to be to live on the island.
