July was dry on the Big Island
If you haven’t noticed, it’s been pretty dry on the Big Island lately. Big Island rainfall totals for July were mostly below average, with many totals ranging from 30% to 70% of average. The Pāhoa rain gauge had its lowest July total since 2004, and area didn’t even record getting any rain last month.

Brushfire on Kualakai Parkway in Kapolei area 90% contained
KAPOLEI, Hawaii (Island News) -- The brushfire active on Kualakai Parkway from Kapolei Parkway to the KROC Center is now 90% contained. The active fire is in the area of Keahumoa Parkway and Kaulakai Parkway. One lane in each direction is now open again on Kualakai Parkway after the entire road was closed. The Honolulu Fire Department is responding to the scene.
