Live Opossum Captured in Downtown Honolulu
A live opossum was captured outside a downtown office building yesterday morning. An area office worker saw the opossum on a window ledge in the gated doorway outside the Austin Building at 223 S. King St. and reported it to the Honolulu Police Department. Arriving officers were able to capture the animal using a broomstick and a plastic bin.

10:45 p.m. Friday update: The second juvenile suspect captured on surveillance video breaking into and vandalizing two Hilo schools is in custody. A parent brought the 14-year-old boy to Waiākea Elementary School to tell the principal he was one of the two teens in video surveillance that posted on social media.

Dole Food Co.’s 2.2-acre parcel at the end of Holoku Place in Wahiawa is squeezed between modest homes and the waters of Lake Wilson’s spillway, which snakes through the area. Although the land appears to be merely a buffer between the homes and the water, offering little apparent additional use, Dole has a potential buyer: the state of Hawaii.
Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset inducts three members
At a recent meeting of the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset three members—Dan Jaeger, Courtney Sakslosky and Bob Shroder—were inducted into the club. Jaeger is the West Area Director with the Boys and Girls Club of Maui. He has extensive nonprofit background including 32 years with the YMCA holding the position of Executive Director and CEO positions. Prior to relocating to Maui, Jaeger was involved with Rotary for 20 years spanning three different communities on the mainland. Jaeger is sponsored by Joanne Laird.
