CORRECTION: The Montana Highway Patrol reissued the fatality crash report for this incident as it initially misidentified the two vehicles involved. The article has been updated to reflect the correct information MHP emailed on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024.

A Wyoming man died after colliding with a truck on an interstate on-ramp in Deer Lodge County on Friday, Sept. 27, 2024.

According to the Montana Highway Patrol (MHP), around 4 p.m. on Friday, a 73-year-old man from Thermopolis, Wyoming was driving a Spyder Roadster eastbound on I-90 near Opportunity. The man reportedly ran off the road to the right and crossed the on-ramp to I-90E from Highway 1 at mile marker 208.

A 40-year-old Butte man was driving a Dodge Ram 3500 on the on-ramp as the truck crossed. MHP's fatality crash report says the Roadster hit the truck in the front bumper, then rolled several times before coming to rest.

The driver of the Roadster was killed in the crash; the driver of the truck was reportedly uninjured.

The MHP report says drugs and speed are suspected as factors in the crash.

No further details were released. We will update you if we get more information.

Prayers lifted for the man's family that lost his life. No injuries to the truck drivers. Don't know, however, certainly sounds like alcohol, drugs, could be a factor. Overall, it's just so sad. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🕊

Poorly written story, but it sounds like the guy in the Dodge Ram perhaps was under the influence, he looses control of his vehicle on the roadway and then takes out innocent guy on his 3 wheel Spider coming down the Interstate on-ramp. So sorry to the loved ones of the innocent driver that was killed, I hope they get justice for what sounds like a completely criminally negligent and avoidable crash that killed their family member.
