According to a release, the celebration will take place each weekend. Due to the park’s proximity to the Missouri River, it presents a “significant flyaway” that serves as a feeding, breeding, and staging ground for migratory birds.

The release states that more than 20 waterfowl species have been observed from Pona State Parks blinds. Officials are inviting the public to witness the multitude of migratory waterfowl in the park.

The viewings will be within the park during guided Avian Adventure Blind Viewing Sessions or unguided bird viewings. Common sightings in the spring include Pintail courtship displays, snow geese, white-fronted geese, wood ducks, mallards, teal, bald eagles, and more, according to the release.

Additionally, the National Audubon Society has listed Ponca State Park as an “important bird area” with 300 species sighted, including 70 of those breeding in the area.

Guided sunrise and sunset waterfowl blind viewings are scheduled for every Saturday throughout March with members of the Loes Hills Audobon Society.

The release noted that space is limited on guided blind viewings. To reserve your spot or for additional information, call Ponca State Park at 402-755-2284.
