    South Dakota unofficial municipal election results

    SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Some communities in South Dakota headed to the polls Tuesday, April 9 for local elections.

    In South Dakota, municipalities can choose to have their local elections on either the second Tuesday in April, the first Tuesday after the first Monday in June (June 4), or the third Tuesday in June (June 18). Siouxland’s very own North Sioux City, Yankton and Jefferson have chosen the first option for the earliest possible elections.

    Other communities, like Vermillion, will have their elections on June 4, combined with the primary election day for the state of South Dakota.

    You can see the unofficial results of each April 9 race below. The names of the winners of each race will be in bold. Polls opened at 7 a.m. and closed at 7 p.m.

    North Sioux City

    North Sioux City is having a municipal election for its city council . There are four wards with two council members from each ward. One seat from each ward is up for election, and terms are for four years.

    Yankton

    In Yankton , there are three city commissioner seats up for election. Yankton has a total of nine city commissioners who serve three-year terms. Yankton residents will vote for up to three of four candidates.
