Vermillion named a Tree City USA by Arbor Day Foundation

VERMILLION, S.D. (KELO) — The city of Vermillion is once again being named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation.

Vermillion achieved this recognition by maintaining a tree board or department, having a tree care ordinance, dedicating a forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and hosting an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation, in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.

The City’s annual Arbor Day celebration will take place April 26 at noon in Prentis Park near the north shelter at the corner of Clark and Plum Streets.
