A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued in the region and will be in effect till 4 AM Friday morning for Siouxland. Make sure you have a way to receive emergency alerts tonight.

With the warm weather and southern breezes, we have some more potential for storms in the region overnight Thursday with a passing cold front.

This front will begin to make its way through western portions of Nebraska and South Dakota in the late afternoon and into Siouxland in the early evening extending through the overnight hours.

With the potential for severe weather in the nighttime, you’ll want to make sure that you have some way to get weather alerts, whether through TV, radio, or phone. Make sure to stay updated as this system could have storms that produce gusts reaching from 60-80 mph in the area and hail up to two inches in diameter.

Isolated tornadoes will be possible as well, with an emphasis for northeast Nebraska for tornado development. Rain totals for now range between a quarter of an inch to the north and over an inch for some of the southern counties which have already had a flood watch issued there.

The storms will have moved out of the forecast area by daybreak tomorrow, with temperatures in the mid 50s and western winds still over 10 mph.
