    Woodbury County holds Disaster Survival Training session

    SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Residents of Woodbury County had another chance to learn some skills to survive a disaster.

    A handful of people were at Cargill Auditorium on the Western Iowa Tech Community College campus Tuesday night. People learned about preparedness and prevention, along with building an emergency kit and having enough supplies on hand.

    Lyon County Disaster Recovery Center to close temporarily

    The county’s emergency management coordinator, Michael Montino, said that during the training, people shared their own disaster stories.

    “I think it’s really interesting having people share their experiences, and I think there’s going to be a lot of people that come to these courses now that have their own experiences and what they faced,” he said. “Although what they faced is incredibly unfortunate, those experiences can help other people learn, so that way they don’t have to face the same things in the future.”

    There’s two more disaster survival training sessions :

    • August 20: Smithland Fire Station, 112 Hickory St., Smithland
    • August 27: Moville Fire Station, 24 W. Main St., Moville
