    Orange City to highlight growing population, diversity at upcoming event

    ORANGE CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — The City of Orange City is going to highlight its growing population and diversity at an upcoming event.

    According to a release, Orange City has seen an influx of new residents in recent years. This influx has led to the town’s Latino population comprising 15% of the population alone.

    The release states that the city comprises of residents from a variety of places around the globe such as Russia, Brazil, China, Ukraine, Columbia, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Micronesia, and more filling jobs as college professors, business professionals, agricultural works, and more.

    The city is hosting the “Tables Across America” event to help bring all these different cultures together for a community meal, conversations, and other activities.

    The day-long event will take place on Aug. 21 and will consist of two separate sessions. A morning session will take place starting at 9 a.m. at the Prairie Winds Event Center at 908 8th Street, and a second evening session will take place from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Central Avenue in downtown Orange City. There will also be more at 101 2nd Street NE including a “Big Check” presentation awarding a local nonprofit.

    The idea for the event comes from Atlanta-based nonprofit The Same House which hosts a similar event in Atlanta every year called the Beloved Benefit. The Same House CEO Rodney Bullard will be delivering a keynote speech during the morning session.
