    First awards for disaster-impacted Iowa homeowners announced

    DES MOINES, Iowa (KCAU) — State-funded awards for Iowa homeowners impacted by June’s severe flooding are starting to be approved.

    On Wednesday, Gov. Kim Reynolds announced that conditional awards were being approved through the state’s Disaster Recovery Housing Assistance Program . The money will let homeowners start to rebuild or be reimbursed.

    “Fast-tracking relief for disaster-impacted Iowans has been my priority, and I’m pleased to announce that funds have started being awarded to homeowners,” Gov. Reynolds said in a statement. “Those receiving conditional awards today, and in the days and weeks to come will be able to take another step towards recovery.”

    According to a release, the funds cover needs not met by insurance or FEMA. Those eligible could get as much as $50,000 towards the repair or rehabilitation of their home affected by the severe flooding.

    The residences must be in a county approved for FEMA Individual Assistance . Before applying, homeowners must already be registered for FEMA Individual Assistance and been awarded any kind of FEMA Housing Assistance.
