CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa (KCAU) — A Correctionville resident and business owner has announced his bid for Iowa House District 13.

Parker Hansen announced his run Thursday, saying he will run as a conservative independent. District 13 includes all of Monona County as well as parts of Cherokee, Plymouth, and Woodbury Counties.

Hansen said that he brings a blend of business expertise and deep-rooted community involvement to the race. He also said he is running because he believes in the power of rural communities and the potential of every Iowan.

“To me, our district is more than just a place; it’s where I was born, raised, and built my life,” Hansen said. “I am committed to representing the values, concerns, and aspirations of all the people who call this district home.”

AEA changes arrive for the 2024-25 school year

A release for Hansen’s announcement said his platform includes funding rural schools, reducing property taxes, expanding broadband access, increasing the homestead exemption to lower the taxable value of property, protecting the Second Amendment, securing property rights, keeping government small, and safeguarding the values that make Iowa’s rural communities strong.

More information on Hansen’s policy positions can be found on his website .

Iowa House District 13 is currently represented by Rep. Ken Carlson . Hansen will be running against the Democratic candidate Rosanne Plante and Republican candidate Travis Sitzman on Nov. 5.
