Bipartisan task force to visit Trump shooting site

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) — After the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, a bipartisan task force will lead the House investigation.

“Why, on July 13th in Butler, Pennsylvania, at the Butler farm show, did this happen?” Rep. Mike Kelly (R-Penn.) asked.

Rep. Kelly is from Butler. He and Rep. Jason Crow (D-Colo.) will try to answer that and many more questions.

“We are completely dedicated to working in a bipartisan way, because we understand that this is a very important effort for the country, and we’re going to get it done,” Rep. Crow said.

The task force is gathering evidence, testimonies and video for its report.

“This has to be transparent, and the American people have to be satisfied at the end of that, that we looked at every possible thing that could have taken place that day,” Rep. Kelly said.

However, with Congress in recess, and campaign season in full swing, the panel of lawmakers must move quickly to release a final report by Dec. 13.

“That’s why we are focusing on building teams. We are staffing up. We are hiring our 30 staff that we need to for the entire task force to get this done,” Rep. Crow said.

In a statement the Secret Service said, “We will continue to be transparent with the task force and will respond to any information requests through official channels.”

“It’s far quicker and far better for everybody, if there’s this cooperation and collaboration and we get that information without having to resort to subpoenas,” Rep. Crow said.

Rep. Kelly says he has only one goal at the end of this.

“The faith and trust and confidence that the American people have to have in our form of government and these agencies has been shattered. And we need to put it back together again,” he said.

The group will visit the shooting site at the end of the month to do a walkthrough and review the information they have so far.
