SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – Sioux City residents had the chance to step back in time over the weekend with a living-history exhibit replicating the Lewis and Clark expedition. The Sergeant Floyd River Museum and Welcome Center grounds are showcasing authentic tents, uniforms and more from the early 1800s.

Re-enactors are helping bring history to life with a Sergeant Floyd re-enactment ceremony at the Floyd monument.

“There’s a sense of smell, touch, feel, part of history,” said Sergeant Floyd Honor Guard re-enactor Brad Holder. “They’ll see something that you won’t see in the school classroom, so you can kind of have a feel of what it was like at that time period.”

The Sergeant Floyd Honor Guard uses this annual recreation to honor the importance of Sioux City’s first fallen soldier.

“If Floyd hadn’t passed away they would’ve just gone right past here, I think and there would have still been the Big Sioux river, they would’ve noted that, but for Sioux City we have that part of history and it comes to life this weekend,” said Holder.
