SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — South Dakota has become the 41st state to join the U.S. Department of Justice in a lawsuit against Live Nation-Ticketmaster.

The civil anti-trust suit alleges that Live Nation-Ticketmaster has engaged in monopolization and other unlawful conduct in violation of the Sherman Act.

“Live Nation-Ticketmaster is monopolizing live concert markets across the nation,” said South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley in an email announcing the action. “This anti-competitive conduct increases ticket prices for South Dakotans and makes it more challenging for music goers to attend live performances.”

The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court in Southern New York.

Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird announced Monday that Iowa is joining the lawsuit as well, saying in part: “When companies like Live Nation and Ticketmaster form monopolies, Americans are left to pay the price.”
