ORANGE CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Orange City showed off all colors of the rainbow as they celebrated local art.

As part of the annual “Arts on Central” event, the Orange City Arts Council introduced the first Chalk Art Competition. Artists had the opportunity to express themselves on the sidewalk in Windmill Park as visitors walked by to admire the creations and vote for their favorite masterpiece.

“Art is a really important way to communicate to people, and visual arts are a fantastic way of doing that, and so we’re really just trying to get people out here and see the visual arts,” said Orange City Arts Council creative administrative assistant Alisha Hauber. “This really gives an opportunity for artists in the community who maybe haven’t shown an art display or something like that to come out and really show their passion and to speak whatever message they have.”

Four teams participated in the Chalk Art Competition covering nine sidewalk squares. The competition winners were announced at the end of the “Arts on Central” event.
