SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – The Mustangs were tabbed in fourth in the conference volleyball preseason poll, but head coach Jessica Squier’s squad returns plenty of veteran presence from last year.

All-GPAC First Team pick Sidney Marlow enters her senior season. The Burlington native totaled 47 kills in Morningside’s first four matches, third most out of any GPAC player this season. The Mustangs return all but just one starter and eight of its nine players that appeared in 25 or more matches.

Earning a 3-1 record in the first weekend, the Mustangs are excited for what’s ahead but are also working on the task at hand.

“We’ve been working hard these first two weeks and we can see how the hard work has paid off the first weekend. I know we have a lot of season left and a lot to work through, but there were some highs and lows. When we were in those lows, we worked through it together and we trusted each other through it and we got through it.” Marlow said.

“I think we need to take it one practice at a time and one week at a time. It’s just the little goals within our practices that we need to focus on and winning each week at a time, which is going to make us significantly more successful in the long run.” Morningside head coach Jessica Squier mentioned.

Morningside’s next stop is Bellevue for the GoSarpy.com Classic. They’ll kick of action against Goshen on Friday at 11:30 a.m.
