    Disaster Recovery Center opens in Union County

    SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KCAU) — A Disaster Recovery Center has opened in Union County.

    The Disaster Recovery Center opened Friday at 1 p.m. in North Sioux City. The center is located at 305 S. Derby Lane and will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. seven days a week, according to a press release from FEMA.

    Those looking for assistance can to speak with recovery specialists from both FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration. At the center, the specialists will help explain available services, explain disaster assistance programs, help people complete or check the status of applications for assistance, and get additional information on resources that are available in South Dakota.

    “We try to set up [Disaster Recovery Centers] to be a one-stop shop for people who have been affected by disasters so they can come here, they get assistance, and they can get the information they need,” Anthony Mayne with FEMA told KCAU 9. “If you’ve already applied for FEMA assistance and you received a determination letter and you don’t understand what it means or what it says, bring it here”

    As of August 22, more than $1.4 million in assistance has been provided to South Dakotans by FEMA.

    More Disaster Recovery Centers are expected to be opening in South Dakota in the coming weeks. You can locate your nearest Center by using FEMA’s Disaster Recovery Center Locator.

    FEMA will be going door-to-door to speak with individuals impacted by the flooding as well as offering assistance to those in need. Otherwise, you can apply for FEMA by calling 800-621-3362, visiting their website , or downloading their app.
