SERGEANT BLUFF, Iowa (KCAU) – Working toward an improved 2024, Sergeant Bluff-Luton are just days away from opening the season with the goal of bouncing back and competing in a tough MRAC conference.

The Sergeant Bluff-Luton Warriors ended last year with a 2-7 record, its fewest since the 2012-13 season. Running back Zayvion Ellington led 3A District 1 with 1,405 all-purpose yards to go along with 8 touchdowns. The incoming senior was the lone player on the team with a rush good for more than 10 yards.

Head Coach Justin Smith and the Warriors program graduated just one senior in USF recruit Scott Dickson, giving returning receivers Isaiah Jervik and Bo Koedam a chance for increased roles. Feeling a strong connection, SB-L believes it’ll boost its play on the gridiron.

“I feel like we’re playing for each other and I feel, especially as an offensive lineman, that’s huge. Being able for all five of us to be one unit is huge.” SB-L offensive and defensive lineman Alex Wilson said.

“I would say, overall, that leadership has rubbed off. We’ve got a lot of kids that are on a mission this year. They have belief in themselves again that we lacked for a couple of years. So, I’d say the juice is back.” Smith highlighted.

SB-L will play Week 1 on the road against Le Mars. Sergeant Bluff-Luton is aiming for its first win against the Bulldogs since 2021.
