MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — As students return to the classroom in Marshalltown, Heart of Iowa Big Brothers Big Sisters are lending them a helping hand.

On Sunday, 20 businesses, organizations, and non-profits joined the organization to donate 300 backpacks to kids. But it wasn’t just school supplies. It was haircuts, vaccines, vision and hearing tests, all to make sure this school year goes smoothly.

Organizers say this is what Marshalltown is all about.

“Marshalltown is a fantastic you know place to live and we’re very fortunate that people are willing to work together. It was a hot, hot day but everybody still came out, participated,” said Maria Gonzalez of Big Brothers Big Sisters.

The organization hopes to double its resources for next year.
