SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KCAU) — South Sioux City council members approved Monday a one and six year street improvement plan.

They say the plan is a way for the city to handle immediate needs, as well as look down the road at long-term needs. The city’s utilities and streets departments went to council to make a list of improvements. This came after the council met with those department staff regarding funding, including what projects may qualify for outside funding.

“It keeps us on our toes to always be planning, to always be watching, to always see the conditions of our streets and make sure public safety is our number one goal,” mayor Rod Koch said. “So to make sure our streets are safe for children, for traffic and for homeowners or anyone else, so that’s why we do it.”

The council also finalized spending for the city’s remaining American Rescue Plan Act funding. The projects must be complete over the next year. Among the seven projects approved is a new pool deck light at the outdoor pool located at the YMCA.
